Why would you want the appearance of that room compromised because you decided to do the drywall repairs yourself and it is noticeable?
The Steps to Repairing and Installing Drywall
There are a number of steps that you go through during the drywall installation process. The steps will vary from contractor to contractor, but are all pretty similar in nature. Here are the steps that the contractors from Home Repair Handyman follow during their drywall installation services:
- Mark off the area of the drywall that is to be repaired.
- Cut a square hole around the area of drywall that you have marked off using a drywall knife.
- Attach a piece of wood to the area of drywall to reinforce the patch of drywall that is to be repaired. Sometimes referred to as "Furring" or adding "Furring Strips".
- Create your drywall patch for the area of drywall that you are repairing.
- Attach your drywall patch flush with the existing walls by using drywall screws. Screw into the wood reinforcement piece that was attached during the 3rd step.
- It is time to tape, bed, and mud your drywall. Using your drywall tools, apply a thin coat of joint compound to the new drywall addition.
- After the compound is dry, use sandpaper to sand the surface of the drywall.
- Repeat Steps 6 and 7 as many times as is necessary. If your surrounding surfaces are textured, now is the time to complete the texturing process.
- Apply a primer to the newly patched portion of drywall. This will allow the repaired drywall piece to be painted.
- Paint your repaired portion of drywall to match the surrounding walls.
