Closet Organization Process
The organization of the closets in your home is not a fun project to tackle. Closet organizations force you to get rid of stuff that has been sitting in your closet for months if not years. Closet organizers do a good job of keeping your closet clean and organized for now and the future.
Get Your Closets Organized
Spring is in the air and for most people that means getting organized! Where do you begin? Let's start with organizing your closets. By organizing your closets first you can create some more valuable storage space for the other stuff that's cluttering your life in your home.
Here are some simple tips to help maximize your existing closets.
- Start with one closest at a time and remove everything from it until it is completely empty.
- Then create three piles from the things you removed.
- Things that are going back in the closet.
- Things that are in the wrong place and need to be stored somewhere else.
- Things that can be thrown away or sold on eBay or Craigslist.
- Look through the pile that's going back into the closet.
- Is the pile mostly clothes?
- Is it shoes?
- Is it mostly belts and ties?
- Is it just odds and ends stuff?
- There are several options out there for you to consider. You could pick up pre-built cabinets and shelving at most home improvement stores or you could have someone build custom shelving and shoe boxes. You may even want to remove all of the existing shelving and rods in a closet and start over to customize the space to fit your belongings from the pile you created.
- As you're loading everything back into the closet it's a great idea to store things that will be up high on a shelf in clear plastic containers so you can easily see the contents without having to get them down.
- Labeling the boxes in a closet with the contents also helps keep it organized. Simply print out some labels from your computer and use tape to affix them to the boxes.
1. Your first step is to de-clutter.
2. Depending on what is in your pile now it's time to acquire some organizational items that will help keep everything in order.
3. Now that you have your new shelving it's time to start loading everything that's in the "keep" pile back into the closet.
Cleaning out and organizing your closets is essential before you tackle the rest of your spring cleaning. You'll be amazed at how much more space you will have to store other things in your home once your closets are organized.
